Blue Skies, Cloudy Days: In Studio with Kate Stewart

In studio this month is Kate Stewart, an 18-year old up and coming singer from right here in Arlington.

Kate Stewart is a senior at Bishop O’Connell High School here in Arlington. We’ve actually worked with Kate before!  As a 4th grader back in 2016, Kate recorded a couple of karaoke-style versions of her favorite Broadway tunes in our studio. It was a fun way for the budding singer to get a little real-world studio experience.

Fast forward eight years later, and Kate has come a long way as a singer! She also recently began playing guitar, a skill she’s used to begin writing her own music. Last month Kate’s mom, Kassie, contacted us to see if we’d be interested in producing Kate’s debut single, Blue Skies, Cloudy Days. Kate was a delight to work with back in 2016, so we happily jumped at the chance to work with her again on something more than just karaoke!

After a couple of pre-production meetings to discuss how to attack the project, Kate was here in early November to record vocals and guitar. This week she was back again, working with Ann and I to fill out the song’s arrangement with sampled strings and cello, piano, and backing vocals.

We’ll be wrapping production in the next couple of weeks, with an eye towards releasing the finished product in early 2023. Stay tuned!
